Every influential concept, movement or business once began as a dream. Our empowerment task at the WFF is to foster student dreamers no matter how obtuse their imaginative insights maybe. Every Tuesday after school, a group known as the Dream Society gathers to critically engage with materials in literature, arts and beyond. The discussion-based enrichment program is facillated by Greta and Peri Warren. Greta holds immersive experince in grade school tutoring, mentorship and classroom aid, while Peri earned her degree in American Studies and Critical Black Studies from Occidental College.

The duo’s role is to simply facilitate a safe space for engagement and to curate materials for generative learning. The student critical scholars lead the majority of the session.

In its first week, The Dream Society engaged with “space” as it pertains to race, knowledge production, and popular culture. The scholars reviewed works by Maya Angelou, Kendrick Lamar and Huey P. Newton (Black Panther Party). The scholars utilized a thesis-centric lens to grapple with rhetoric ascribed to Black resistance.
